1. I am abroad and I would like to know how can I lodge an asylum application in Romania?
According to asylum legislation, asylum application is lodged at Romanian border points or after the applicant enters the territory of Romania. Asylum Law provides that the asylum applications lodged outside the territory of Romania shall not be accepted.
2. Do I have the right to a lawyer during the interview?
The asylum seeker has the right to be assisted by a lawyer during the interview. Therefore, the asylum seeker can hire a lawyer. Sometimes, in cases selected by NGO’s, the asylum seekers can be assisted by a NGO legal counselor.
3. Who translates my interview?
The interview is translated by an interpreter whose services are paid by the asylum authorities.
4. Where shall I lodge my complaint if I am rejected?
The complaint shall be resolved by the Court whose territorial jurisdiction includes the Romanian Immigration Office’ competent body that issued the decision. The legal proceedings for the appeal shall be performed by the tribunal – Section Administrative District Court – whose territorial jurisdiction includes the Court that issued the decision.

5. I am married in Reşiţa and I want to apply for asylum in Romania. Where shall I lodge the asylum application?
Reşiţa is within the territorial jurisdiction of Timişoara Regional Centre. Therefore, you shall lodge your asylum application at this Centre.
According to Asylum Law, asylum application can be lodge at:
- Romanian Immigration Office’ bodies;
- Regional Centres for accomodation and procedures for asylum applicants TIMIŞOARA, GALAŢI, RĂDĂUŢI and MARAMUREŞ;
- territorial bodies for immigrations;
- Centres for aliens Otopeni and Arad;
- Border Police’ bodies;
- Romanian Police’ bodies;
- bodies of the National Administration for Penitentiaries from the Ministry of Justice.
6. My wife and children are in Syria. I have refugee status in Romania, I would like to bring my family here and I do not know what to do.
Because you are a beneficiary of refugee status, you can apply for asylum for your family members who are outside Romanian territory (which means that you applied for family reunification). These applications shall be lodged at Asylum and Integration Directorate within Romanian Immigration Office. It is very important to lodged the documents which can prove that they are your family members (identity documents of your wife and the children, the birth certificates, the marriage certificates etc.). Also, it is necessary to lodge a document to prove that the family members agreed to apply for asylum.
7. I applied for asylum in Romania 5 years ago and I was rejected. At present I received news from my country and I am afraid to go back there. Can I apply for asylum in Romania again?
At present you have the right to ask the access to a new asylum procedure, which means that you want to receive the access to a new asylum procedure for a detailed assessment of your case. Therefore, you have the right to lodge an application for the access to a new asylum procedure at one of the Regional Centre for accomodation and procedure for asylum applicants Bucureşti, Timişoara, Galaţi, Rădăuţi şi Şomcuta Mare. In your application you have to mention the reasons for asking the access to a new asylum procedure. These reasons may be new events, facts which appeared or which existed and you did not have the oportunity to present during the previous procedure or changes in the country of origine which have serious consequences for you. Also, it is important to lodge all the documents that you consider relevant for your case.
